[Aviation News] Philippine Airlines and oneworld have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a major step toward the Philippine flag carrier’s planned entry into the global airline alliance. Subject to the completion of all membership requirements, Philippine Airlines is expected to officially join oneworld in 2027.

Founded in 1941, Philippine Airlines is the national carrier of the Philippines and Asia’s first commercial airline. The airline has been recognized as an APEX Four Star™ carrier and was ranked as the most punctual airline in the Asia-Pacific region in 2025 by aviation analytics company Cirium. Today, Philippine Airlines operates an extensive international network spanning Asia, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, with Manila and Cebu serving as its primary hubs.

Oneworld continues to strengthen its global network through strategic expansion. Following the recent addition of Hawaiian Airlines, Philippine Airlines is set to become the alliance’s newest member. Upon joining, Philippine Airlines will add 31 unique destinations across the Philippines and beyond to the oneworld network, significantly enhancing the alliance’s presence in Southeast Asia. The airline’s growing international network will further support travel demand between Asia, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia, while complementing the existing services offered by current oneworld member airlines.
The oneworld alliance currently consists of Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan Airlines, and Fiji Airways.
