Chongqing International Transfer Fully Integrated as Hainan Airlines Unifies Through-Check Product Across Six Intercontinental Routes

[Aviation News]   Starting 20 April 2026, Hainan Airlines has introduced its “International Through Check” transfer service on the Chongqing–Brussels route. With this addition, all six of the airline’s intercontinental routes operating out of Chongqing—Chongqing–Seattle, Paris, Milan, Rome, Madrid, and Brussels—have now been fully integrated into a single through-check product system, marking the completion of standardized integration of Chongqing’s international transfer services.

The “International Through Check” service is a transfer facilitation mechanism piloted by China’s General Administration of Customs at selected airports and in cooperation with participating airlines. Its core feature is the integration of the entire connecting journey into the point of origin, allowing passengers to complete all check-in and baggage processes in a single step. Travelers can complete full itinerary check-in and have their baggage checked through to the final destination at the departure airport, without needing to retrieve and re-check baggage at the transit airport, thereby enabling a “one-time check-in, baggage through to destination” experience and reducing redundant procedures and connection costs in international transfer travel.

Hainan Airlines first introduced this model in Chongqing in 2023 and has gradually expanded it to multiple domestic departure cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Haikou, Xiamen, and Wenzhou, forming a transfer network centered on Chongqing as a hub. Passenger flows from multiple origins are consolidated via Chongqing and then connected to intercontinental routes, further reinforcing Chongqing’s role as a key transfer and distribution node within the airline’s network system.

With continued expansion of the program, the inclusion of the Chongqing–Brussels route means that all of Hainan Airlines’ intercontinental services from Chongqing are now fully covered under the through-check product. The service has therefore evolved from a single-route pilot into a system-wide application across the entire intercontinental route portfolio. Supported by Chongqing Jiangbei Airport Customs and airport operational systems, the mechanism is further integrated with existing international route operations, enabling coordinated standardization of both transfer processes and network structure.
