[Industry insight] Cathay Pacific Airways, together with the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, recently unveiled a new art-themed aircraft livery—the “Spirit of Hong Kong” 80th Anniversary Edition—at an event in Hong Kong. The aircraft entered commercial service on March 9, 2026, operating its inaugural flight on the Hong Kong–Hanoi route.

The commemorative livery is applied to a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The fuselage features a colorful ink-painting artistic style designed by Hong Kong multimedia artist Wong Hung-tat. The painting was realized with the assistance of artificial intelligence and robotic spraying technology. The overall design draws inspiration from Hong Kong’s mountain-and-sea cityscape, blending traditional ink art with modern technological elements.
This marks the fifth time Cathay Pacific has introduced a “Spirit of Hong Kong” themed aircraft livery since 1997. The new aircraft also features the airline’s 80th anniversary emblem alongside branding elements from the West Kowloon Cultural District.
The unveiling ceremony was held at Hong Kong International Airport. Victor Li stated that the commemorative livery aims to showcase Hong Kong’s cultural and creative industries through the airline’s network. Christopher Cheung added that the collaboration represents a cross-sector linkage between culture and aviation, helping promote local art and creativity on an international stage.
