July 2017

In July 2017, the Tourism Department of the Spanish Consulate General in Guangzhou held a tourism promotion event for the Galicia region at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Guangzhou. The event also celebrated the 2017 World Tapas Day and invited more tourists from Guangdong to visit Spain and enjoy the local cuisine that showcases boundless creativity.

It is known that in 2016, over 77 million international tourists visited Spain to “pilgrimage” to the food, and food has become one of the important attractions of Spanish tourism. Many people learned their first word in Spain – tapa (tapas). This is a food with its own festival, suitable for both cold and hot consumption, can be served as a side dish or a main meal, and there are various ways of eating. It is often eaten with beer, red wine or apple wine. Many places have their own unique Tapas, which can be served as an appetizer before a meal or as a snack at night. The World Tapas Day has become an annual major event for promoting Spanish tourism overseas. Every year, the Spanish National Tourism Board organizes activities through its 30 overseas representative offices to promote the World Tapas Day, enhancing this national-level delicacy. This year, a total of 733 restaurants worldwide participated.
