MIAT Mongolian Airlines Launches Direct Shanghai-Ulaanbaatar Flights

MIAT Mongolian Airlines (OM), the national flag carrier of Mongolia, proudly announces the launch of its new direct route between Shanghai and Ulaanbaatar. Beginning July 3, 2025, MIAT will operate direct flights twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays, offering passengers greater convenience and enhanced connectivity between Mongolia and China.

The Shanghai-Ulaanbaatar route departs from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) at 01:10 every Thursday and Sunday and arrives at the Ulaanbaatar New Airport – Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) at 5:00. The Ulaanbaatar-Shanghai route departs from the new Ulaanbaatar International Airport (UBN) at 20:40 every Wednesday and Saturday and arrives at Pudong International Airport (PVG) at 0:10 the next day. The one-way flight time is approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes (all times above are local time) and the flight is operated by Boeing 737MAX8.

The addition of Shanghai, China’s financial and commercial hub, to MIAT’s network underscores the airline’s commitment to expanding regional connectivity. By operating flights to Shanghai Pudong International Airport—one of China’s major aviation hubs—MIAT aims to strengthen travel and trade ties and offer passengers more seamless connections through Shanghai.

Currently, MIAT operates direct services to Beijing, Hohhot, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, with plans to launch flights to Erenhot. Beyond China, MIAT connects Mongolia to Europe with flights to Istanbul and Frankfurt. The new Shanghai-Ulaanbaatar service is timed to offer convenient onward connections to these European destinations, complemented by attractive fares under the 6th Freedom of the Air rights, making travel between Shanghai and Europe via Ulaanbaatar both affordable and comfortable.

In addition to its international network, MIAT operates scheduled domestic services to eight major airports across Mongolia. These routes provide visitors with convenient access to some of the country’s most stunning natural and cultural attractions.

Headquartered in Ulaanbaatar, MIAT Mongolian Airlines operates from its main hub at Ulaanbaatar New Airport – Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN). Established in 1956, the airline provides scheduled international services to 14 international and 8 domestic destinations, delivering full-service hospitality marked by comfort, reliability, and warm Mongolian hospitality. MIAT Mongolian Airlines remains dedicated to offering safe, efficient, and friendly service, ensuring every journey is a pleasant and memorable experience.
