[Aviation News] ITA Airways officially joined the Star Alliance on April 1, 2026, becoming its 26th member airline.

Following its entry into the alliance, ITA Airways will leverage its two main hubs—Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Milan Linate Airport (LIN)—to integrate into the Star Alliance’s global network, which spans over 1,150 destinations across more than 190 countries, operating approximately 17,500 daily flights. This move marks a significant step in ITA Airways’ return to the international market, aiming to enhance connectivity with major airlines worldwide.

With an annual passenger traffic exceeding 16 million, ITA Airways is expected to contribute over 350 additional daily flights to the alliance, further strengthening connections between Southern Europe and global markets. Passengers traveling across multiple airlines will benefit from reciprocal mileage accrual and redemption, seamless connecting flights, and improved convenience and flexibility, enhancing the overall travel experience.

ITA Airways traces its origins to the original Alitalia, founded in 1946, which for decades was a core airline brand in Italy and Europe. After years of operation and restructuring, the company was reestablished as ITA Airways in 2021, launching a comprehensive modern and international development strategy. Alitalia had long been a member of the Skyteam before exiting due to restructuring. ITA Airways inherits this legacy and, with a more robust business model, rejoins the alliance, marking a full return of the airline to the global aviation network.
