[Aviation News] IndiGo has announced that Willie Walsh, the current Director General of the International Air Transport Association, will step down from his role at IATA on July 31, 2026, and is expected to assume the position of Chief Executive Officer of IndiGo in early August, subject to regulatory approval.

It is understood that Walsh will become the first industry executive to return to an airline leadership role after serving as IATA Director General. IATA has also confirmed that the leadership transition will be completed by the end of July 2026.
According to publicly available information, Walsh brings extensive management experience in the aviation sector. He previously served as CEO of Aer Lingus and British Airways, and led International Airlines Group from 2011 to 2020. Industry observers believe that this leadership change will inject new strategic momentum into IndiGo’s international expansion and operational management.
