Finnair Orders Embraer E195-E2 Aircraft to Advance European Fleet Renewal

[Aviation News]   Finnair announced that it will order up to 46 E195-E2 narrowbody aircraft from Embraer, including 18 firm orders, 16 options, and 12 purchase rights. The aircraft will be used to replace aging fleet and support upgrades to its European network. This marks one of Finnair’s largest investments in over two decades, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027. The aircraft will be configured with 134 seats.

Finnair stated that the selection of the E195-E2 is based on its overall performance in fuel efficiency, operational reliability, and cabin comfort. Compared with the previous generation, the aircraft offers approximately 35% improved fuel efficiency, along with lower noise levels and a no-middle-seat configuration, helping to reduce carbon emissions per seat and improve efficiency on short- and medium-haul routes. The airline believes the new aircraft will support network expansion in the European market and enhance profitability.

At the same time, Finnair is evaluating the potential acquisition of up to 12 Airbus A320 or Airbus A321 aircraft from the secondary market to supplement capacity. Overall, this fleet renewal program is expected to play a key role in optimizing Finnair’s fleet structure, strengthening competitiveness, and advancing its decarbonization goals.
