China Southern and China Eastern Ramp Up Capacity for Summer–Autumn Season, Expanding Both International and Domestic Networks

[Aviation News]   Starting from March 29, 2026, China’s civil aviation sector enters the summer–autumn season, with multiple airlines increasing capacity deployment and optimizing route networks, reflecting a parallel trend of accelerated international recovery and strengthened domestic hub operations. China Southern Airlines plans to operate nearly 700,000 flights during the new season, covering more than 230 destinations and over 900 routes. China Eastern Airlines will deploy a fleet of 823 passenger aircraft, operating more than 950 routes with an average of over 3,200 daily flights.

On the international front, airlines continue to restore and expand their global networks. China Southern will launch new routes including Guangzhou–Bishkek, Guangzhou–Delhi, and Beijing Daxing–Helsinki, while increasing frequencies across key markets in Australia, Europe, and Southeast Asia. China Eastern plans to operate approximately 1,400 weekly international and regional flights in the new season, with European capacity increasing by around 24% year-on-year. The airline will also introduce new routes such as Shanghai–Tashkent, Shanghai–Adelaide, Shanghai–Tbilisi, and Xi’an–Vienna, further strengthening its intercontinental and regional connectivity.

In the domestic market, airlines are optimizing network structures around core hubs. China Southern is focusing on enhancing its three major hubs in Guangzhou, Beijing Daxing, and Urumqi, while increasing frequencies between the Greater Bay Area, the Yangtze River Delta, and western China. China Eastern is reinforcing capacity deployment at key hubs including Shanghai, Beijing, Xi’an, and Kunming, while adding 41 new domestic routes and increasing frequencies on 65 routes to improve connectivity across trunk and leisure markets. Overall, China’s aviation market in the new season demonstrates a comprehensive trend of capacity recovery, network expansion, and coordinated hub development.
